HR Council congratulates Dick Stewart – Champion on Human Services Award recipient

June 29, 2010

The HR Council would like to congratulate Dick Stewart, a founding and current HR Council board member, on receiving the Champion on Human Services Award from the Ontario Municipal Social Services Association (OMSSA).

As part of its 60th anniversary, OMSSA has introduced a new awards and recognition program as a way to demonstrate the value of human services in Ontario. This award recognizes individuals who have made significant impacts on human services at a municipal, provincial, or federal level. They are considered thought leaders, whose work is motivational for OMSSA members.

Dick is a recognized leader in developing effective client-centred and innovative social and community services through municipal and nonprofit collaboration.
As the former general manager of People Services for the City of Ottawa, Dick has more than 33 years experience from the front lines to senior management positions in social services departments.

Dick’s achievements include:

•    Leading the development of Canada’s first Human Services Plan, paving the road for a transformation in the way human services are viewed across the province.
•    Developing effective client centred innovative social and community services through local partnerships.

Dick made significant contributions to OMSSA during his time on its board, including as president in 1989-1990 and through his tenure on the policy and advocacy committee.

In addition to his current work with the HR Council, Dick is also a board member of the Community Foundation of Ottawa and West End Legal Services of Ottawa, in addition to sitting on the steering committee for the Ontario Nonprofit Network.
